Meet our founder, Kathleen Pankin, PharmD, MS, BCPS.

Dr. Kathleen Pankin is a board certified pharmacist and professor at three schools of pharmacy. She precepts 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year pharmacy students at a level 1 trauma center and has volunteered for local, state, and national organizations. She writes continuing education presentations and has trained pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in hospitals for over ten years. Her doctoral degree is from Virginia Commonwealth University and her Master’s degree is from University of Florida. Go Gators!

On my path to becoming a pharmacist, I had a tough time figuring out the details.

How do I write a resume? Is it the same as a resume for a non-healthcare job or school? What is the difference between a resume and a CV? What am I supposed to write on my letter of intent? If all of my experience is in retail pharmacy, how do I get a job in a hospital? What can I do to make my residency application stand out?

Along the way, my classmates and friends, other students, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacists all had the same questions and so many more. Nobody knew what companies were REALLY looking for. And what would the actual interview be like? How do I prepare?

After I graduated, I realized that I wanted to help them all. I started volunteering with local, regional, and national pharmacy organizations. I led sessions at ASHP’s Midyear Clinical Meeting, I started precepting 1-3 students on their clinical rotations at a time, I started giving inservices and continuing education presentations at my hospital, and I edited resumes, CVs, cover letters, and letters of intent all the time. It felt good to teach high school students, nursing students, and technicians studying for their PTCE to become a Certified Pharmacy Technician.

Then, my former students started contacting me because they had indeed gotten a job at a hospital, had passed their NAPLEX, had passed their Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam, and gotten that residency or fellowship they really wanted. It was so fulfilling to see that my teachings and career preparation advice had paid off!

Now, I’m a huge believer in increasing your self-awareness, the power of reflection, setting short term and long term SMART goals, and having multiple professionals edit your resume, CV, cover letter, or letters of intent. I created Pharmaccel Online™ to give all healthcare students, all pharmacy technicians, and all pharmacists the information, tools, and confidence to have a passion-based career and life.
